Northern, a prominent train operator, has joined forces with Decorum Vending to set up 79 new vending machines across 51 different locations within its network. This vending machine, which features well-known brands, has been introduced to offer customers a diverse selection of products as they travel across Northern England. This assortment includes choices like low-sugar and health-conscious snacks for those on the move.
One key feature of all these new vending machine is that they exclusively support cashless transactions. This not only discourages vandalism but also permits customers to conveniently make contactless payments using their credit or debit cards as well as smartphones. The decision to partner with Decorum was significantly influenced by the vending operator’s strong commitment to sustainability. Their machines are designed with energy-efficient technology, uphold responsible waste management practices, and have plans to introduce a hybrid fleet of maintenance vehicles.
The introduction of these fresh systems has garnered positive feedback from customers, with some of the highest-performing units stationed at Manchester Victoria and Manchester Oxford Road stations.
More machines are slated to be set up at Harrogate and Manchester Victoria stations. Additionally, 34 more locations have been identified for the installation of extra vending machines in the upcoming year, 2023. The revenue generated from product sales via these machines is reinvested by Northern to continually enhance their train services and station facilities.
These new vending machines are strategically placed at various stations within the network, offering a convenient array of options for passengers. Notably, Northern ranks as the second-largest train operator in the UK, serving nearly 2,500 daily services across over 500 stations in the North of England.
